I'm a musician and I am always writing songs. I am very confident in my abilities but there is always something I'm not happy with when I complete a song. I've heard that every artist has something he/she doesn't like about their work but I'm having a serious problem. Everything song I write feels like its missing something I'll never be able to find. Is there a word for this and are their ways to cope with it?

  1. whatever you do, and however much you hate your own work: DON'T DELETE IT, any of it. instead play through your pieces to people whose advice and opinion you trust and ask them what they liked best about your songs. write that down and this way you can learn more about your strengths so in future you can take these and use them to your advantage. good luck- and remember that hardly anyone can just create a masterpiece on their first go.

good luck and go for it!!

  2. its being overly self critical

and you can use it to your advantage, sit down and try and figure out exactly what it is that is bothering you about the piece, and once you've identified it, think about ways you could change it, if nothing better comes to mind the piece is fine, bu if something does you may have just improved your piece further

also getting a second opinion always helps
