Have you ever caught yourself or someone else in an embarrasing moment and noticed that sometimes you, or they, feel the need to act dumb?

Other have admitted that when they think of an embarrasing moment in their lives they have this urge to curse, say something stupid or make a funny little noise. Especially when they're alone. I've seen this in movies and TV, such as "Meet the Parents" and Ryan Reynolds in "Just Friends"

Does this feeling have/ action have a name?
