  1. its called a cutting. you can also use a medium like peat or perlite to grow it in. there are root growth hormones that promote the growth of roots. some plants like the jade plant and spider plant root very easily they sometimes start rooting when they are still on the mother plant. Other plants grow roots very slowly and difficultly. This is a process that is cheaper and easier to reproduce plants.
