The vice president is "president" of the Senate and presides over it.  As stated above, the veep also breaks tie votes and inquires about the health of the president daily.

Clearly d**k Cheney has had a huge influence on the current administration due his vast experience vis a vis George Bush.  Regardless of whether you think this is for good or for ill, he has redefined what a VP is.

They’re the president of the senate. They only go in when a tie needs to be broken. That’s about all they do.

Well to her credit, she is asking questions up front.  I'd rather know what she does not know before she potentially takes the office.  But i would much rather have a vice president and other advisers who are aware of the positions they hold and show vision and leadership in those positions.
