Brisbane is warm, tropical, great beaches, access to the great barrier reef, great relaxed lifestyle, theme park access and good markets! I would however recommend melbourne! It truly is the best city in australia (i am biased i admit). Great night life, great food, great people, great scenery, excellent everything! If you come to melbourne check out: eureka tower, rialto, degraves st, aquariaum, phillip island, st kilda, brunswick, crown casino, federation square, art centre, national gallery of victoria, queen vic market & the botanical gardens

The beaches are great, also the shopping, night life, Australia Zoo(a must see)... very friendly people and the food is to die for. On the west coast I would choose Perth which is also fantastic.
