My husband and I are thinking of moving there, and we are curious as to how the people treat Americans. Also, what is the weather, landscape, and food like?

  1. being Irish myself..I would have to agree totally with zephyrescent... especially about claiming you are Irish because your great great great grand pappy shook hands with a leprechaun or whatever and you have come her to invigorate your green blood....Irish people hate this 'wannabee a paddy (mick)' phenomenon and... you would do better to say " I came here because I want my children to be Irish"  you will have a wonderful time here and  you will never want to go home...

  2. Lots of leprechauns and fairies ...

    Everybody wears green ...

And there are a lot of sheeps ...

  3. I've been living here my whole life. Its a booming country but if you want real Ireland move to the West coast, especially Donegal or Kerry. Our attitude to Americans depends wholly on yourself. To the loud ones we smirk and treat like fools9and you'll get this, i warn you). But most are open to Americans. Please try and avoid the "i know someone who has Irish ancestry" tpoic. It is the most hated topic for us to hear from Americans. We are fiercly Nationalistic in our identity having fought for it for over 800 years and eventually winning. So-Americans who claim to be Irish because they're ancestors went over in the Famine are actually looked down. They left when the country faced its almost total destruction (from 8million to 2 and we've never recovered-its at 3and a half now) and then they never returned or sent support in our struggle for freedom. So to say your Irish is a no-no. Just thought i'd mention, dont mean to gripe.

Weather's ok-balanced but a wee bit wet. landscape varies quite a bit but as far as nature goes-its like the photos you see. Food is international and the trad food is GORGEOUS. One problem though-the housing crises! though we have a booming economy and lotsa jobs its SO hard to get a house for average wage earners. So, bring a good bit of money if you intend on getting a mortgage (average in the countryside is 300,000euros, much higher in the cities, especially Dublin). Also, a very large influx of Eastern European immigrants and we're currently having growing pains to this phenomenon. Last time foreigners came in numbers was to kill us and torment us so our nationalistic side has sparked some rascism.

Any more you wanna knoe just send me a message and i'll write back.

    Good luck.

What is it like in the US?

What kind of stupid question is this?

  5. depends on the part of ireland you move to.My peps are from wicklow mtns

  6. its nice here, im english, but ive lived here almost my whole life. send me a message if you want to know more about ireland. (",)

  7. Being American and having the experience of living in Ireland, I would say its a go! people were so nice to me and are kind to americans, no one had any rude remarks of any kind. you may see that people might joke around about the accent every once in awhile but not in a mean manner. weather is decent enough, i lived in Limerick but visited Dublin and such, its funny, it will down pour one minute then the sun is shining again. the weather is unpredictable in comparison to american weather (new england's at least). the landscape is gorgeous! so green, and many many castles (in Co. Limerick) and just breath taking, the hills and all. for food, it depends on whos making it, a real irish person ma ydo boiled potatoes, meat, but not limited to that, but chippers (take out burgers) i think are excellent! the food's not as bad as people may think

  8. The irish love Americans, in fact we love anyone who isnt Irish.

Its a beautiful country, green and wet.......

It rains a lot, I think thats why we spend so much time in the pub.

  9. Ireland is wonderful. Some of the nicest people in the world. Good humor, love to sing, good job opportunities there. Ireland is great. Thumbs up from Smiddy.

Weather on the cool side, tendency for rain - but made up for by lush green, hilly landscapes. Not exactly world-class food - but hearty stuff. Goes great with beer.
