  1. I come from Alsace and been in the Us for 6 years, everytime I go back i re-discover how nice it is there.

For starters it is a piece of France with strong German influence.

The dialect we speak there is really close to German.

It is a plain stuck between the Vosges mountains on the West and the black Forest on the East. The Rein river goes thru it.

I grew up there and really enjoyed the traditions and folklore: there are the Christmas markets, the harvest festivals, the white wines, the gastronomy: a killer sauerkraut, a potato dish called Baekkehoffe (good luck pronouncing that!!!), and a kind of roll made of dough and meat called a Fleischsnakke (litt: the meat rolled in a shape of a snail, my personal favorite).

the symbols of Alsace are: the storks, they are every where in the little villages like Kaysersberg and Munster, the traditional clothing, the women have this hummongous butterfly bow on their head.
