Will Egyptian people respect me, I am a western woman, but I do not wear skimpy clothes in muslem countries. But it will be hot when I visit, and I do not want to cover up entirely, but I don't want men to think I am 'an easy western woman'. How will the local men treat me? Thanks

  1. U can visit ,but better not in summers.

  2. egyption pepole respect all visitors

but really egypt is amoslium country and have islamic habits so every one come egypt must respect these habits.by

  3. In most of the large Cairo hotels you will be respected as long as you do not wear revealing clothes. As you rightly say, you are in a muslem country, and that is the only way to be respecte. Egyptian men do not respect western women in general, as they think they sleep with anyone. So it is up to us western women to show them that they think c**p, we do not do that.

Sometimes Egyptian men will charm you - they can be so charming, it is nice to be nice back to them, but you need to be firm if they start flirting with you.

When I go to Egypt I dress moderately. Because it is so hot, I tend to wear strappy top with chiffonny short sleeve over top, with light trousers, I stay as cool as possible, but still enjoy the heat.

So yes, they will respect you if you respect yourself and do not display  a s**y body!

    Enjoy your visit.

    :)

  4. I Don't Think anything will happen to you as long as you don't go into dark or poor places

  5. i don't recommend you to go alone. when i went their, people were constantly staring, asking me to give them my phone number, i got followed, and much more. don't get me wrong i love egypt it's where my parents were born, so i love it. but it's hard for a woman to go alone.

    good luck!

  6. many women are single or alone in Cairo without attracting attention.

you dont have to cover up or wear anything out of your wardrobe .

all you have to do is wear comfortable cotton clothes , T-shirts , jeans , not too short or tight skirts .

dont be self conscious  and no one would bother you .

    have a nice stay.

  7. They will respect you and you don't have to wear skimpy clothes because if you dont know there is 15000,000 christian in EGYPT they weare regular clothes.

  8. Women, particularly foreign women, are frequently subject to unpleasant male attention, sexual harassment, and verbal abuse. This often takes the form of staring, inappropriate remarks, catcalls, and touching. The Department publishes a booklet entitled Her Own Way: A Woman’s Guide to Safe and Successful Travel. Its prime objective is to inform Canadian women and encourage them to travel safely.

There are reports of female Canadian citizens being forced into marriage without their prior knowledge or consent. Parents, relatives and the community may use relentless pressure and emotional blackmail, threatening behaviour, abduction, imprisonment and physical violence to coerce young people to enter into marriage. While both men and women experience forced marriages, it is a form of violence most commonly perpetrated against women. They have been unable to return to Canada, and their passports and money have been retained by family members. Canada opposes the practice of forced marriage and urges all countries to respect their international human rights obligations relating to free and full consent to marriage. Forced marriage constitutes a human rights violation under several legal instruments, including international human rights law, to which Canada is a signatory.

  9. I went to Cairo on my own and had no problem.  I tended to wear light, loose, long sleeved clothing.  If you wear skimpy clothing you will be inviting a lot of looks but that is about all.  Try not to go there at the hottest time of the year.  It is a difficult city to get around in (ie. crowded, polluted and chaotic) without adding extreme heat into the equation.  Most of the men I spoke to were very nice and polite albeit quite incredulous that I would travel alone to another country and that my husband allowed me to.

  10. It partially does depend on how you dress and how you act.  There's nothing wrong with accommodating Egyptian norms in dress - just wear light and loose clothing - a long, loose skirt, a long-sleeved loose shirt, and a hat or scarf will take you a long way.

Watch your eye contact; it means different things in different cultures.  I'd recommend not staring men in the eye a whole lot.

Also, it depends on the staff at the hotel you stay at.  I'm sure that the staff at the big tourist hotels have been briefed extensively on not making women uncomfortable.  Also, I know small family-run places in Cairo where they're so kind that they wouldn't dream of bothering you.  On the other hand, I know of some women who have been harassed by the staff at other hotels!

Even travelling with someone, you might get catcalls.  Just keep to yourself with men, and don't focus on it too much.

Most Egyptian men are the soul of courtesy, but there are tools in all cultures.

  11. WELL DEAR..FIRST I WISH YOU A HAPPY VISIT AND A NICE STAY IN EGYPT..I AM SURE YOU WILL LIKE IT...

AS YOU ARE A WESTERN LADY SO I UNDERSTAND YOU ARE NOT ACCUSTOMED TO HOT WEATHER..EGYPT REALLY HAS A MODERATE WEATHER ALL THE YEAR ROUND EXCEPT PROPABLE FOR THE HOT SUMMER MONTHS..THEY ARE REALLY SO SO HOT ESPECIALLY IN THE LAST YEARS..SO IF YOU CAN POSTPOND YOUR VISITM IT WOULD BE BETTER..SO AS TO ENJOY MOST...........IF YOU HAVE TO DO IT IN TIME, I THINK IT WOULD BE TERRIBLY HOT

AS FOR CLOTHES, YOU CAN WEAR WHAT YOU LIKE..NO NEED TO COVER UP AT ALL..........IN THE LAST YEARS, EGYPTIAN WOMEN GOT LIBERAL MORE THAN EVEN SOME WESTERN GIRL SO IT ECAME COMMON TO SEE SEMI-NAKED GIRLS....SO WHATEVER YOU WEAR , WILL NOT BE ALARMING TO PEOPLE...........ESPECIALLY AT HOTELS AND RESTURANTS WHERE THEY ARE ACCOUSTOMED TO THIS ALL...SO WEAR LIGHT CLOTHES BECAUSE IT WIL BE HOT BUT TRY ALSO NOT TO BE SHOWY AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE..

    WISH YOU A HAPPY TRIP
