  1. Well, after living in 4 countries and 10 US states I came back to live in Antigua.  I absolutely love it here!  It is always like spring and the location is great!  It is more quite and cultural than Guatemala city, but close enough to reap the benefits of Guatemala City's shopping and transportation.  The architecture is amazing and the people are warm and friendly.  If you have any questions drop me an e-mail or check out this website - http://www.MyAntiguaOnline.com

  2. I agree that Antigua Guatemala is worth a 1 day visit. The architecture is incredible, and the weather is nice, although It is the rainy season until November.

The real treasure of Guatemala is the indigenous Maya population. Their presence in Antigua is restricted. You'd be much better off near Lake Atitlan, and more centrally located for day trips around the countryside.

The other great thing in Guatemala is the landscape, the plants and animals and scenery. Antigua has none of those either.

For a good introduction to what is in Guatemala, check out the videos at http://www.atitlan.net

    Enjoy your visit!

  3. Antigua is a beautiful colonial city that is a must visit.  If you visit Guatemala and just visit Antigua, you are missing the true Guatemala.  If you want to get a flavor for what to expect, visit this website.  The owner of the site, Rudy Giron is very pleasant and will answer any questions you have.  Give it a look and you can see what Antigua is all about.

  4. Antigua is set in a valley below the Fuego and Agua volcanoes.  It has a very Spanish colonial look and feel with cobble stone streets and lots of churches.  It is primarily a tourist city, so lots of shops and restaurants geared towards tourist and lots of hotels or inns.  All of which are set in traditional colonial buildings.

It is a must see, but as one of the other answers said, it is not a good representation of modern Guatemala.  It is more like a city stuck in another time.  It is however, a very good place to stay and to use as an outpost for further exploration.

  5. The best place to be / visit / live. It's the ancient capital of Guatemala, it's urban design is originally hispanic, and the architecture it's incredible. The whole city was built in the 16th century and the detail in most of the buildings is kept as built. The city was destroyed over several natural disasters, therefore you can see many ruins and ancient churches and temples. There is a lot to do, nightlife, great dining, great people, and since it's one of Guatemala's most important tourist attactions, you can take a bus from there to anywhere. The environment is charming, colorful and friendly. You will fall in love with it!

  6. Antigua is a great place to homebase and day trip out of...dont miss Thurs or sunday market days in Chichicastenango...Lake Atitlan area is also a must see.

  7. Well Antigua Guatemala is one of the few citties all over the world with the tittle on Monument of America, also calle Humanity Patrimony by Unesco.... So I agree Guatemala has many beautiful ans interesting things to see but if some one comes to Guatemala, ha to visit this Colonial City full of mistery and flowers, marked by three standing volcanoes as it is Agua, Fuego an Acatenango. From Antigua is easy to travel every where inside Guatemala very easy.
