  1. Tokyo is an amazing city ( one of my favorites in the WORLD)!  People are incredibly helpful if you put forth the effort to speak in Japanese.  ALWAYS TRY JAPANESE FIRST- even if you aren't that knowledgeable!

You see not just americans ( there are other nationalities) but lot of Canadians, Brits, Aussies, Russians, people of African descent ( recent) and everything in between ( sorry, I can't list every nationality that you will encounter- no offence meant to anyone).  It is crowded, but people are polite and for the most part considerate.  You will get jostled in a crowd and people won't likely say excuse me or hold doors open for you- that's how it is.  Good food can be found everywhere and it's easy to get around.

  2. Tokyo is like New York City with different signs.

It is busy 24 hours a day.

Most people you will contact speak a little English.

I have never had problems with people in any country I have visited, and Japan is no exception.

    Everyone is nice and friendly.

If you are going out get a card with the hotel address so you can show it to the taxi if you can't find your way back.

Take some tours, the guides speak English and can give  you information you will not learn other places.

Tokyo is a huge city and it takes several days to explore it without venturing out into the country.

Take the shuttle bus from the airport to the hotel it costs $30 U.S. and takes about 2 hours.

  3. There's many other people, (foreigners) but even if you see them, some of them are half, or have lived in japan a long time, so are Japanese. People are so nice! My grandparents went to Japan to visit me, and they had no problem , even though they can't speak japanese, because people take you places, and treat you really well. They appreciate you, and try really hard tp be your friend. Also, most Japanese people are very polite. You may see foreigners, (not too many, but a few), but the japanese aren't racist in any way. Also, many commercials and ads contain a lot of american celebs, like in a softbank commercial, cameron diaz. Don't worry at all, Japan is really fun!

  4. It's crowded and busy. People are nice. You see americans pretty often.

  5. people are nice if youre visiting here as a foreigner

the city is sickingly busy but you'll manage fine if youre at least 180 cm. you will have breathing and personal space if you are at least that high in the sardine packed train. if you stocky and well built, people will not bump on you, you will be avoided. so lucky you, you will have another personal space when youre walking in shubuya or c**p town like that.
