I am thinking about moving to the UK from the USA, (I don't like it in America). What is it like living in the Uk, England specifically? I really don't mind the rain. E-mails are welcome; riverbottomautumn@yahoo.com.

  1. I lived in England for 2 years and I am moving back in a month (getting married to a brit)

Depending on your age, education, etc etc...

As an American you can stay in England for 3 months. If you want to stay longer than 3 months you will have to get a visa...

Anyway, its great over there. You do find that some brits do not like Americans. But you don't get harassed too badly.

People can be much more quiet and polite. There also is a lot of "blue collar" types in England.

  2. i live in the east of england, there its very quite, lovely sea everywhere, low crime. i would quite like to live in america, especially calfornia as its always seems to be hot. as you said you don't mind the rain, its not the rain that causes are problems its the constant change in weather. one day its blazing hot and your sunbaving, the next day youve got your umbrella and raincoat on. you never know what the weathers going to be, so plainning holidays and days out can be quite tricky. i would say living in the UK is ust normal, you get up in the morning go to school or work for 6+ hours, come home in the traffic rush. sit down and watch television. <thats how ive lived pretty much all of my life. i do love living in this country, but you always feel like 'big brother' is watching you as we say. hope i helped :D

  3. It's pretty sweeeet matey !!!

Yes ok it rains occasionally, we have rubbish public transport, and fish and chips isn't all that great.  But we play rugby!  And uhhhh. . . soccer.

And everything isn't so big.  There's more. . . community I guess you could say.

So yeah, it's a good country!!

  4. i love living in the UK! i live just inbetween Liverpool and Manchester so have easy access to two great cities which are full of culture...we have great music & fashion scenes, the people (well, most of them) are nice...i really like it over here :) only downside is the unpredictable weather but at least when you eventually get a sunny day everyone appreciates it more...if you arent fussed about the rain then i really think you would like it over here! have you been to England before? because i guess if you havent you could maybe organise a holiday lasting a few weeks and see if you could stay with a host family to see what UK life is like? the only problem is if you live in rough areas (South Manchester, North & South London) there is a problem with teenage violence and gangs but if you live in a more rural/suburban area then you shouldnt have that problem.

something to take into consideration though, is that living expenses in the UK are much higher than in the US so you need to make sure you can finance living here if you do choose to move! im not sure what the difference is but ive heard Americans say that it is pretty expensive over here so it might be worth checking out. anyway, good luck!

  5. I want to move there to. I hate the U.S. and all the people in it. This country is going to h**l. I'm so disgusted with our society here in the U.S.

  6. It's lovely and it's a challenge.  Some things are just different enough to make you ask a lot of questions, but it all starts to make sense and you get the hang of it.  Are you going alone? It's easier if you have someone with you, but if you are the independent sort, you will be ok.  I lived in SE London (alone) for a short time, and now I'm moving back permanently.

The money isn't hard to deal with---just stop trying to convert the exchange to US dollars and learn the coins and you won't have any problems, there. Just make sure you bring enough with you to get you started, because you will lose nearly 1/2 the value of the dollar when you convert it! At the bare minimum you should bring a couple thousand--not hundreds!

You will love the inexpensive traveling, not only around England but also other countries.

It can be rather expensive to live there, that will depend on where you live (forget Central London unless you're wealthy) and do a LOT LOT of research and planning before you even book your flight.  For example, where will you stay when you first get there? where do you plan to go from there, will you rent a flat, share a flat?  And the big question is, how will you get a job? what job? you will need a work permit and if you go to England without having a job first, you will have to wait for the permit before you can work,(it takes at LEAST a month to get it) unless you can find a place that will pay under the table.  If you have a good plan set up, you will do great and enjoy it, otherwise, you will be unhappy and possibly stuck.  Keep asking questions!
