  1. Never done it. 6'4" almost 290 lbs enough said.

But I have spoken to MANY jockeys, never met one that didn't think it was the best sport with the most exciting feelings.

None have ever told me that they regretted it.

If you have it in you enjoy it and be thankful that you can do it. Not many can do it.

It is hard work but they will all tell you they love it.

  2. I have not been in competition, but I have ridden some very fast horses. It is exhilarating, exciting, and amazing. You are one with the horse. And the excitement was too great to be afraid.

  3. Well Vannessa ,

I have,, and its the one of the neatest feelings I have ever had next to Jumping a 5"9 fence with a 6ft spread,

Your on top of the world ,

But I must say some horses do it so easy that it flew by so fast and it felt like your on a Cadillac. on cruise control

I normally keep timing in my brain so I know how fast I am going ( not by speed,,, By time)

on a few you never have the chance to do it because he covers so much ground and it feels literary like he is running on a cloud,You really never feel his feet hit the ground

Those are few and far between

Fear No never , It goes away like the other person said, You have no time to even think about that,  you Just do your job,

Fear as I said above , But yes it comes in, when your on a horse that is from Argentina, Your back tracking in a trot long stirrups and then he gets it in his head it , that its his day to work out , going full speed the wrong way right before  the break is really frighting , But thanks to he best out riders at Santa Anita I was saved , so was every one else,

Next day we got that stud colt gelded

It was he first time pulling a fast one on some one!

If people really knows They are here today

I am so happy to see so many good answers ,,

  4. You could try the race horse simulator at the Saratoga racing museum.I tried it out and got up to full speed. It was hard and my leg muscles hurt.I ride horses but it is nothing like that.I don't think I could gallop a real race horse. It would be a real thrill though.

  5. Unbelievably exhilerating.  Nothing like it.  I galloped for 17 years.

The only times I was "scared", if that's the right word - maybe "severely concerned" is a better term - - were times galloping a strong horse who wanted to really lug out or in, and I wondered if there were a chance we would go over a rail at some point, and, in general with horses with really bad mouths (no steering).  Having one run off on a crowded track is not much fun, either.

  6. its the greatest feeling in the world, nothing can compare.  its not scary, its exhilarating.
