Question:

What is it like to be a telemarketer?

I'm attempting to write my first screenplay, in which the main character is a telemarketer. Could anyone give me any info on what it's actually like to be one? What's involved in the job? How much time do you spend talking to co-workers? What are the hours like? How often do you get new scripts? Do you generally get your own cubicle? How much contact do you have with your boss? How many people do you call that are horribly mean? How many times do you actually sell anything?

Any illumination on the subject would be welcome.

Also, ideas for things my character could be selling would be great.

Thanks in advance!

  1. Why be such a shut-in?

You could answer all these questions by just applying for one of these jobs (they always want people) and spending one evening doing this.

  2. Well I hope you screen play does good.

But.....    PLEASE don't call me.  I HATE to be rude to people, but when a telemarketer calls me.  I just have to be rude.  I usually play along with them and keep them on the phone as long as I can pretending to really believe in there product.  I lead them on and on and on as if they were really going to get me to buy.  (AS IF I WAS GOING TO give them my credit card number).  Then I love it when they go in for the close and bring on another person on the line.  (The CLOSER)  Then I lead them on and on and on.

At the end.  I usually tell them I am just not interested and ask them to remove my number off there list.  You see, I keeped them on the line long enough to register there phone call and get enough information from them to turn them into the Federal Trade Commission if they should ever call me back.  I love doing that.

I hoped this helped.  It just might be a nice little twist to your screen play.

    Good luck with it.

  3. To answer your question involved in the job is calling people to basically sell your product. I guess you have breaks like every other job, just because your a telemarketer doesn't mean your a different type of person or something. Hours are i shift-work, causal or full time (Like any other job). Yes you kind of get your own cubicle, however it's more your own little area with a computer and phone. Generally i guess 80% of people would either hang up on you or abuse you. I'm not sure about how much you sell but you obviously do because otherwise how could the company keep running?

  4. i know some people try to **** with their minds.
