What is it like working as a cashier at a grocery store?

im starting work at one this week.just wondering if im in for a boring and stressful job.

Oooh, honey.  are you in for it.  I've been working at a grocery store for 2 years, and let's break this job down to what it really is: moving things from one side of a table to the other.  you scan pretty much the same items, all day, every day.  You listen to the same customers, make the same jokes, ask the same questions, and make the same complaints.  However, if you like the people you work with, it's not that bad, but it is EXTREMELY boring.  It is not stressful in the slightest, unless you're opinionated, because as a cashier, you have no opinions, as the customer is always freaking right.  A word of advice: make friends with your fellow cashiers because they'll be the one you turn to when you have a crazy customer.  have fun though!

you have to learn how to run your register....

Whether you're bored or not, depends on you....

if you like talking to people, you can have a good time..

if you take complaining personally, or you think every friendly guy is hitting on you....you might as well not go....
