What is it that so many people have against doing environmentally friendly things?

I really dont care if you do or don't believe that global warming or whatever is happening. I don't care if you are a liberal or a conservative. I want to know what it is that people have against doing simple things like recycling and reducing oil usage. After all, breathing all the fumes from oil burning is bad for us, this is proven. Oil is running out fast and is eating our payhecks. And it would be great if we were using more recycled paper so that we didn't have to cut down forests and endanger/displace millions of animals and plants. This is very simple stuff that is more good for people and the world as a whole. The environmental benifits are just a happy after-effect.

So, tell me why people have problems doing simple things? Is it just that they are spitefull because they dont like being a part of the global warming thing or is it just being lazy and not considerate? (Yes, this is biased. So are most of you)

cause they think they got more important things to do. but personnaly i think they should get of their FAT LAZY *** AND DO SOMETHING GOOD FOR THE ENVIROMENT

Where did you get the idea that people aren't doing anything?

Just because we have fewer laws forcing us to do what you think best?  Maybe if we threw more people in jail like the UK who threw a 90 year old blind vet in jail because he tossed an empty ketchup bottle into the wrong recycling bin more people like you would be happy?

Its because people hate to change their habits unless they thought of it first, a kind of pride........so what i say to people is "look how much money you will save" which overcomes most resistance.Every time its a nice day my neighbour comes out and shouts "this is global warming, bring it on" which is only partly an attempt to wind people up.If you gently say to him"What do you want to give your  hard-earned money away to greedy energy companies for" he quickly comes back to reality.With energy becoming more expensive many arguments can be easily won with simple truths without getting into the science.  There are a few others, very hardboiled indeed, like a former Chancellor of the Exchequer in the UK called Nigel Lawson who took pleasure in destroying the mining communities here in the UK who have overnight acquired PHDs in climate science- these dont care as they wont be alive when the worst effects of climate change are destroying lives .......and cant be persuaded even not to waste energy- his answer for the UK "REOPEN THE MINES"- knowing as little about the  coal industry as he does about  his chosen subject- these have to just be left in their boxes as arent interested in reasoned argument or common sense, only their own prejudice.....

To be pro Environment for many is being a traitor to Humanity

you may have noticed that many people who are on the side of nature have been replaced by those who want to exploit it .

You are coming from an unpopular direction,which is saying something as this is supposed to be the category FOR Environment

Living in cities far from Nature also accounts for a lot

Many people simply do not care for the Environment and do not realize how Important it is to our own existance,So ignorance is a factor,

maybe if they did know,they would be kinder to Nature and the animals ,Seeing them as fellow earthlings instead of things in the way of progress.

And maybe if they realized the state of affairs with our bio resources and the demand humanity imposes ,they would be more responsible and less wasteful

The focus is only on Global warming ,who or what is to blame or even if it is true

The focus should be on the Environment for its own reasons ,and Global Warming is only a component of that

And there are those who profit from exploiting Nature they would be the last to act sympathetic about their source of money, if would mean having to change their actions

And there are those who simple do not see reason ,

or don`t want to change their habits

it is why this is called habits  .

So this can come under lethargy

we have said this before many times

in theory it is easy ,a change of attitude ,that is all

Practice is something else ,education ,rallies ,disastrous events ,Public Heroes who spread the word,government policies.the Law .the Army ,the Church  -------roll on ,

The heavier the word gets,such as  going to h**l for not being green .

The more  the resistance appears to be  growing

Like Parents telling kids not to smoke and they will do it anyway

What does not help is that those who are supposed to help  are behind a lot of the eco crimes,

People do not want to save the environment, because it would require a change in their lives.

Chnage to some people, can be a scray thing, and so they do not want to do it.

I can't speak fo people, I can speak for myself . I agree that we humans should respect our environment but it starts with respecting each other.  When we encourage rather then accuse, that would be a start.

Other people are just uninformed. Based on what i have observed here in my country, the Philippines, more people doing those recycling and envonment friendly stuffs are those people that are well educated and belong in the middle class and upper class of our society. I believe that since most people here in the Phillipines are poor and not educated enough with this kind of growing crisis, they tend to be indifferent about it. After all, they have a lot of things on their mind to think about than recycling, distinguishing biodegradable from non biodegradable etc.. Their main priority is how to survive each day of their lives. In the end, it's still up to the government to help those people, after all it's not the only crisis we are facing today. Let's stop judging other people and start doing our part. Let's inform our loved ones and friends to be more proactive in doing their part in taking care for the environment. In that way, we can make some difference.

I do think that most of Climate Change Theory and Global Warming is mass hysteria that is based on sketchy facts and bad logic.

However it does seem to me that most of the "green" things to do make sense for other reasons as well.  Conservation and improving energy efficiency through better design and recycling saves money, a lot of money.  Moving away from oil dependency can only help everyone in the long run.  So well it seems you and I have very different outlooks it seems we would agree on much of what should be done.

I actually do not think the vast majority of people are against a more environmentally friendly approach.  It's more that most people are very limited in what they can do.  The average person cannot afford to switch out their car for a hybrid or replace the windows in their home, even though it would probably save them money in the long run.  Personal economics force most people to choose options that are less environmentally friendly.  If your choice is between making rent and buying green products, what would you do?

People are not interested in being taken down any more false trails by environmentalists.

Environmentalists cause destruction of Rain Forest and drive up food costs for production of biofuel.

Environmentalist forced air conditioning fluid to be replaced with less energy efficient fluid and multiplied the cost of air conditioning.  Which had no impact on an ozone hole that has existed for no one knows how many 1000s of years and which opens and closes with the seasons.

Environmentalists said we would freeze to death, die of heat, burn up and drown all at the same time.

The problems of air and water pollution were cleaned up in the 70's and 80's and monitored, in the US, by the Environmental Protection Agencies (EPA) created in 1970.

Current "crisis" is manufactured by environmentalists, who never help, only harm.

first off I have no problems with doing things environmentally friendly.. however most aren't cheap and money can be hard to come by..

but lets look at  yoru suggestions... recycled paper to avoid....

you do realize that we do NOT cut down wild forests for paper in the US right?? if everyone shifts and uses recycled paper only what do you think the paper companies would do with the VAST forests they have on a grow/maintain cycle in the american North west;

in all probability owning thousands of acres of trees that they no longer need.. would have them selling the land to developers that would then cut down those forests but NOT reseed them

similar problems develop when you look at  a LOT of "Green" efforts most are smoke and mirrors.. when you lift he veil they are poorly thought out and do more damage then good...

what amazes me is that tree huggers freely admit that man kind hurts the environment.. and they know from our history that knee jerk reactions are generally more harmful then good.. but want us to take immediate drastic action....

They feel generally powerless in their lives, and they feel the only way they can exert personal power is by being uncooperative. Plus (bonus!), they get attention for it.
