Your transfer software might be set to auto-delete after transfer.

Normally you have options when wanting to put pictures on your laptop.

-Copy  (This would make a copy and put the copy on the laptop).

-move (This would move the picture from the camera to the laptop)

-Cut (This would also take the original, then needing pasting into it's destination)

-Paste (as above)

You need to check the options, i suspect you are using MOVE.

well most programs have an option to transfer or transfer and delete. try and find it and see what it is one. chances are that is all.
