What is it with Arabic countries and homosexuality?

You'd think people that just have a different sexual orientation are criminals there. Some moroccan g*y guys I know live their whole life in hiding. As if it is still the 5th century and not making babies was a threat to survival.

Why is it that arabic countries are so harsh for people that are different?

OK also in Christian countries people can quote a phrase out of the Bible condemning homosexuality (and then ignore the 200 odd damnations of heterosexuality, men with beards, approval of slavery, etc).

Any idea? What is the underlying fear or prejudice?

  1. Thats what happens when you let countries be run by religious trodolytes, you get irrational laws and injustice. It's called theocracy. The muslim religion does not allow homosexuals and most arab countries laws are run by religion rather then secular reason.

  2. In Islam it's haram and they are hiding because they know it's wrong and a shame.

  3. It probably has to do more with Islam than being Arabic.  Leviticus is usually where Christians quote homosexuality as being a sin, but as you probably know Leviticus is in the Old Testament(or Torah), which is the basis of Christianity, Judaism and Islam.

  4. May Allah keep them in hiding.  It's a sin and should be hidden and rejected no matter what other sins exist.

BTW, it's 'arab country' not 'arabic country'.
