Constantly I am asking my granddaughter over and over to do something. By the third time I am usually yelling and she asks me why am I yelling at her. She doesn't seem to understand that this aggravates me. What should I do? Is this normal for a 10 yr old not to quite understand or have such shallowness?

  1. I have that same problem with my boy's. I usually ask them to repeat what i just said so i know they heard me. Then i wait for about 10 minutes and ask them if they have done what i asked of them. 8 out of ten times it gets done then. The other 2 out of 10  times That's when i yell and then i say, You wonder why i have to yell? This is a good example. If you had done it in the first place, I wouldn't have to. Right! Then they agree with me. hope this helps.

  2. that sucks!

  3. I think your granddaughter only hears what she wants to hear. Don't yell anymore. Speak softly, but give her an alternative (punishment) for ignoring you.

  4. Your Grandmother may very well be hard of hearing. Have you even considered that since she questions why you yell.

  5. Its normal, most of us grandparents yells its in making sure our grandchildren can hear and knowing they are o.k. this happens and when children doesn't want to listen to what we have to say to them it causes us to sometime have to raise our voice. We at least know that they hear us when they want to ignore us. Hang in there it works for us. God Bless You!
