  1. Kelp is a type of seaweed. A holdfast is a rock or some other object that the kelp anchors to. Stipe is the stem part of the kelp, blades are the leaves and flotation devices are between the stipe and the blade. They are hollow and pull the kelp twards the surface of the water.
