What is legal physical child discipline ?

i don't have any children, but i've always wanted to know. i know some places it's like 2 pops on the butt with your hand, but like what is it altogether

No law in anywhere in the USA which specifies the legal extent of spanking.  

Child abuse is illegal everywhere.  What constitutes child abuse is open to interpretation and definitely varies from state to state.

As a basic rule, spanking constitutes abuse if it was not in response to misbehavior.  Also if the spanker intended to cause injury or if physical health is adversely effected (e.g. blood is drawn, bones are broken, etc.).  Usually it is not abuse if the pain is short-lived and is a direct response to misbehavior.

I'm not aware of any technical law stipulating how much or for how long, spanking can be used. I just use common sense (no actual hitting, not used to actually hurt my child etc, on the bottom with an open hand or a light smack on the top of the hand). It would be very hard to legislate the specifics.

i don't think there is an actual law on spanking. i do know that if you use an object it is considered/ becomes abuse. i just read in the paper for my area that a child was killed. they had a large discussion on it and had a little piece in the paper on what is considered  un-allowable. they said hairbrush, shoes, belts, switches, or any other identifiable object used to dicsapline the child. they said can be construed as abuse. some jury might say yes, some might say no, because there is no actual law. i spanked my kids (they are too old now) and they grew up just fine. but i never have used anything other than my hand. my daughter gets popped in the lips periodically if she decides to be a smart alec though. she is 12. but that is very rare, proabably because she knows what will come. good luck!! just dont take it overboard, and use your hand.

I will beat my children. I do not leave marks on them and I don't half way kill them. I don't know if there is a law that says where you can physically discipline your children. That is a difficult one, if you can do it here it can only be this way and so on and so forth. Just use good judgment. Sorry but I was raised old school

spanking, striking the buttocks, usually as a physical punishment, with an open hand

you can hit them on the bottom with an open hand and it cant leave any marks or pop them on the hand. anything else is considered abuse. someone said you can put rice in a sock and hit them on the butt it wont leave a mark but i dont know if thats true and ive never done it

I'm not sure but I am glad you asked this question. I have 3 kids and I don't like spanking but I do it if i absolutely have to. I wasn't even sure if it was legal anymore or not.
