  1. The best areas in Queens for middle-income people are Forest Hills, Rego Park, Bayside, Fresh Meadow, and Maspeth.  The public schools are decent to very good.  But these areas are not cheap.  The average two-bedroom apartment cost from $550,000 to $650,000.

  2. There are good parts of Queens like Astoria.  I personally believe that private schools are better than public schools in Queens, but that's my opinion.  Some good high schools include Townsend Harris, and some good elementary schools include Emmaculate Conception and Queens Lutheran School.  I think Astoria is much safer than Brooklyn, but I don't know about other parts of Queens.

  3. Queens is a nice place to live, but if you want to stay close to Manhattan I recommend Astoria, Sunnyside, woodside and Long Island City. All these hoods are close to Manhattan (no more than 30 min by train, 15 min by car).

They are all nice neighborhoods with a nice mix of people.
