  1. Spain is wonderful!

My favorite country to visit, live in (wish I could do the long-term thing again)

I lived in Sevilla.  Not a big beach person, but I did swim the mediterranean this last visit.

South, the best, and yes, there are gypsies there...just avoid them.  Firmly tell them NO, and walk away, they usually won't bother you past that, but don't do as we did in Granada...we went to the Cathedral, found it closed for another half hour, then walked around it...were accosted by gypsies around every corner...sometimes the same woman two, three times.  They didn't even look at us to see that they had just spoken to us.  You can tell who they are because they're very aggressive.

Best beach towns: Málaga and the whole Costa del Sol.  Nerja is a bunch less touristy, from what I´ve heard, and there are some spots where you can get away from the tourists altogether, if you´re looking for a more natural beach.  If you´re into it, Doñana National Park (west of Cádiz), is supposed to be very pretty, and the Atlantic beaches are just as nice as the Mediterranean.

Personally, I´m more into the culture and architecture.  Lived in Sevilla, and as such, am quite partial to it...I recommend at least a week to really do it up right.

Go to a bullfight if you can take it (it isn´t too bad), but it gets kind of boring if you don´t understand the fine points, so don´t be afraid to get up and leave after a few bulls.

Try to find a REAL flamenco show, not the big Tablaos.  The Carbonería is supposed to be a nice, natural place to watch flamenco (thought I actually got differing opinions from various people) and there´s some newer place in Triana, but I can´t remember the name of it.  Get tickets in advance, and realize that the hours are pretty late for such things.  the Carbonería doesn´t even open until 10:00 PM.

Eat lots of tapas.  In some towns they can be bought at lunch time, and it´s by far the cheaper way to eat, and if you go to Seville, go to the Campana and have some chocolate truffles for me.

Don´t miss Granada if you can get there.  You really only need about two days to do Granada up right, but you MUST; MUST, MUST see the Alhambra.

Ronda is a cute little town, and if you like a challenging bike ride, they have tours arranged there into the ¨White towns¨.

Cádiz is a great little city, and Valencia has a wonderful new Aquarium, and it´s the third largest city in the country...quite a lot to do and see.  More details, email me directly.  I think you can do so through my profile.
