  1. Heathrow is extremely busy. It's best to get that fact out of the way. But i do advise to just follow the signs and you can't go wrong. The signs are just about everywhere.

As for getting away from Heathrow, i recommend a bus. But there are trains. The expensive Heathrow express or the London Underground.

  2. I can tell you two things: 1.) Its busy and 2.) Its big!!

If you love your luggage more than yourself, dont go into Terminal 5! You will never see it again in your life time!

  3. As the old joke goes, "One cannot truly understand the full meaning of the dread phrase 'terminal illness' until one has visited Heathrow."  This may be a little harsh, but try and avoid Terminal 5 if you ever want to see your luggage again.  Terminal 1 is quite dour and low-ceilinged, and Terminal 4 is easy to get lost in.  Queues are often long, there are rarely enough seats and retail facilities are limited.  Apart from that, it's fine.  A place to spend as little time as possible in, in my opinion.

  4. Heathrow suffers from having started out a small place 50 or more years ago, then having bits added on here and bits added on there in a rather hotch-potch manner to try to keep pace with the demand for air travel ... in essence I think of it as three airports sharing one site ... a lot depends on whether you're arriving or departing and from which terminal ... personally I like terminal 4 because it's a relatively logical place ... long-haul flights from terminal 3 are not too bad and arrivals are quite straightforward although it's a long walk to the tube station, which is where I'm usually heading, and after a long flight I don't look forward to the hike ... I've been through terminals 1 and 2 as well and found them confusing but quite cosy in an old-fashioned way ... I've not been through terminal 5 yet, it got an awful lot of justifiably bad press when it opened (although I haven't heard any complaints about it recently) but it was planned to be more straightforward to use so I'll keep my fingers crossed

fortunately I've never had to transit at Heathrow because I live in London

Heathrow is not a place to be enjoyed, it's a place you try to get through as quickly and straightforwardly as possible

  5. busy as h**l!
