  1. I just painted my living room with a Zero VOC paint and it is AMAZING!  It was so nice not to be overwhelmed with the smell of paint and to know I wasn't harming the environment or my health.

Check out Yolo Colorhouse.  They have a $5 rebate going right now too.  I purchased it at Home Depot.

"VOCs (volatile organic compounds) are the solvents in most paints that evaporate and contribute to the depletion of the ozone. VOCs are also a part of the stinky odor in paint that is offensive and continues to off-gas which contributes to poor indoor air quality. YOLO Colorhouse® is formulated without the use of these solvents, as a result it is a 0 VOC and low odor, premium interior paint."

  2. VOC's are volatile organic compounds.  These are very high in oil-based paints, but there are lower levels in some latex paints.  VOC's have been shown to cause health problems, so the lower VOC paints are supposed to be better for you.  I still prefer oil-based stain and varnish/polyurethane, but for paint low VOC is the way to go.  Hope this helps.

  3. Commonly called "green" paint. Environmentally friendly. Less harmful chemicals. This product has come a long way and is very good quality for durability and coverage.

  4. Low or no Volatile Organic Compound paint is the way to go.  Still, you should test for tolerance as everyone is different (especially if you are sensitive to chemical smells). You can do this by painting a piece of wood and then sleeping with it on your night table for a couple of weeks or so.
