  1. Do you mean LUNGING? Because that is used for a number of things, to teach a horse gaits, get a horse use to the saddle, and to work on directional changes

  2. its where you have the horse trot or run around you in a circle...as big as you want or as small as you want, you have control

  3. You attach a 10 metre rope to your horses lunge halter, you stand in the middle and ask him to walk, trot and canter around you. You hold a long whip that you point at his hindquarters in one hand, and in the other you hold the lunge rope.

It is quite easy to do, but to learn to do is safely you'd need to have someone show you.

Lots of people do this to calm their horses down. Others use it to train their horses and it can be used to train the rider as well (then you ride without having to hold the reins).

Hope this makes some sense, happy riding.

  4. Lunging is to teach horses to walk trot and canter but also beginner riders sometimes get put on the lunge to improve there position and ability 2 ride.

Lunging is also used if you don't have enough time 2 ride it also is used to cool down a horse if they have lots of energy 2 burn before a show eg     its used for many thing so i hope that answered your question!!!! *-*

  5. Baby, it is the French spelling for the word for the use of long line training. We call it long lining or lounging. I have to look it up, as I do not spell. To stand in the center, with a line to the horse, working in a circle, in the open on in a pen. It give you some control, on horse in training, as in the open fields they can not get away from you. Both western and English use it to start and train horses. The Engilish sometimes put low jump in.You stand in one place while the horse work around you. I have use long lines from 10 Ft. to 50 Ft. It keep you from the " running in line, which is some trainers run along side with they horse, when working on the slower gates. You can work the horse up though the voice commands, so they are ready to mount. I go to the next step and use to line, like driving because you can turn to horse to the right away from you, which you can not do with the one line. I use cotton rope, as it will not burn the horse if it rubs on the horse’s legs. If I have the horse work in the ring with two lines, I will take him outside and drive him around the place. When talking about horses, I call all of then ether, he, or she. It up set some people, as they think I do not know what I am doing, the same with car/truck. I try to get the most of a handle on a horse, befor I put the first rider, on him. My wife has been the first rider on all of our 2 year old, but by then they are well ground broke. I have never had a 2-year-old act up on the first mounting. Now I have had rider spook the horses, in saddle work, but when you are using new riders that can happen. By the way, congrat on your horse, I hope he is all you want.

  6. If you are talking about lunging. That is a way to exercise your horse and train it. It is when a horse is on a lunging line and with a lunging whip at it's butt sometimes. You can say the command when it is doing it. When it's walking you say walk as it walks. Tell it to trot. If it doesn't trot you hit the lunging whip on the floor. Not the horse. And then when it is trotting you tell it trot. It is also used to get a horse used to a saddle on it's back or even a person

  7. Do you mean longeing? That must be what you mean. Longeing is when have the horse on a long rope, otherwise known as a longe line (a rope specifically made for longeing, usually from 20 to 30 feet long), and you send the horse forward around you on to a circle using a longe whip. Longeing is a source of exercise for horses, and it can also be very beneficial for riding purposes. For instance, if you longe a horse in a training surcingle, longeing cavesson or bridle in side reins, it supples the horse and creates correct muscular development. Longeing can also serve as a warm up for your horse before you ride to allow the horse to move freely without the burden of a rider. Longeing is also very helpful in the training of young horses to help create a forward-thinking horse.

Longeing can be very helpful when learning to ride, because someone can give you a longe lesson, so you as a rider do not have to worry about steering. Longe lessons can help you with your position and correct usage of aiding.

But when it all comes down to it, longeing is a source of exercise for horses.

Good luck with horses and riding!
