I just moved to Huntsville, TX (near Houston) and now I'm constantly pestered by these 'creatures' chirping in the trees all night! I'm from Dallas, TX and I never heard these things before. At first I thought it could be a strange bird chirping at night by my house because it almost sounds like that, but as I walked outside it was coming from dozens, if not hundreds, of them throughout all the trees!!

I wouldn't mind, but its practically never ending!! I can't see anything and it doesn't sound like any typical insect like a cricket, but I really don't know so now I'm curious!

Any ideas??

  1. cicada's

  2. Tree frogs, probably. We had lots in Austin. Most people never heard them over the air conditioning, but at night we liked a fan.

  3. ya if your scared of birds thats pretty bad go see a psychiatrist.

  4. If its like a quiet chirping noise sounding like its comming in the dozens then its probably bats. At the airport theres a tree and when i walked past it it sounded like there were dozens of birds in it, but i didnt see one, that was because there were TONS of bats in it. So yeah, its most likely bats. Dont worry though cause bats rarely EVER attack humans.

  5. It could be either a type of tree frog or insect. I've driven through Huntsville several times and have heard them as well and I think one of the locals said it's a type of tree frog.

  6. If you want my opinion, I think it is a bunch of crickets, locusts, or even frogs.  But if you really want to know what's making the noise then just go outside and look in the trees.

  7. cicada's thats what they are called

  8. it might be crickets or cicada's. idk but i find it relaxing
