last year at the world team tennis she hit a 126mph serve using and that was with her abbreviated serve if so it falls 3mph short of the strongest recorded serve by venus 129mph at french last year and serena 129mph at charleston this year

also at the italian open she hit at 206kph (128mph) fault serve against cibulkova and 196 kph (122mph) against wozniacki which was a returned first serve

i think she really is capable of serving fast but not as consistent because she rely more on placement

most of the time i see her max serve speed nowadays at 188kph (118mph)...inputs guys???

  1. Her fastest serve that I can recall  was around 122 mph, but she usually hits her first serve in the 105-115 range.  Henin even served faster on average.

  2. I have also seen the match against wozniacki, the danish player and have seen the 122mph serve Sharapova hit

Me thinks she can do more but will most likely go long eventually leading to a fault

Ok here is my take on the fastest and best servers in the WTA:

Fastest server under the height of 5'6" was Henin

Fastest lefty server who can go up to 120mph is Schnyder

Hardest hitting server that translates of course to a fast serve is Serena or Venus

Fastest Recorded Serve for a  female is Schultz-Mcartney at 130mph

Servers with best placements are Serena and Sharapova

Best kick second serve is Kuznetsova and/or Henin

    Best serve form is Sharapova

I agree with the most overrated serve that is Ivanovic

  3. Brenda Schultz-McCarthy actually holds the record for the fastest serve with 130mph.

I will look into Sharapova's record for you and get back to you.

  4. the 122mph measured serve was the most recent at foro italico so technically she can increase this to 125mph the most on a lucky serve day

remember when venus hit the record at roland garros last year she didnt even seem to distinguish if she was really going for a really big serve and she said it just came naturally for her so if and when sharapova hits a really big one in the future for her it will feel like its just one of those big serves!

  5. i think she has a strong serve but about serving those over the 120 mph, is not true since i haven't heard anything about it and venus still has the fastest serve.

  6. u really answered ur ques. urself...she is capable of serving some very big serves...she just needs to consistently practise these serves...

and hey lemme corect u...Venus no more holds the fastest serve record..Brenda Schultz-McCarthy from the Netherlands.. holds that record...at 130 mph...she has actually returned to tour after many years of retiremnt due to injuries...she is arnd 38 years old...she is currently playing at french open quallies....b4 retirement also she was known to have big serves...

  7. Maria Yuryevna Sharápova is the  former World No. 1 Tennis plater.  As of April 21, 2008, she is the third-ranked female player in the world and the top ranked Russian female player. At the end of 2006, she was the world’s highest-paid female athlete.

2007 French Open fourth round: defeated Patty Schnyder 3-6, 6-4, 9-7. Sharapova came into the tournament with an injury and overcame two match points against her during this match.

2007 WTA Tour Championships final: defeated by Henin 5-7, 7-5, 6-3. World No. 1 Henin was the pre-match favorite, but Sharapova took the first set on her eighth set point and at one stage in the second set, was a mere five points from victory. The match lasted 3 hours, 24 minutes, making it the 12th longest women’s match in the open era. It was widely agreed as the best women’s match of 2007,[citation needed] with some citing it as an all-time classic.

2008 Australian Open quarterfinal: defeated Henin 6-4, 6-0. Henin was the World No. 1, but Sharapova won her third victory in nine meetings with Henin. The win snapped Henin’s 32-match winning streak and marked the first time Henin had suffered a “bagel” set since 2002. It also marked the first time since 2005 that Henin had lost in a Grand Slam tournament before the semifinals.

2008 Australian Open Final: defeated Ana Ivanovic to claim her third Grand Slam singles title. This was the first time she was favored in a Grand Slam final, but she still was able to win. This gave her a 3-1 Win/Loss record in Slam Finals and now only Roland Garros stands in her way of completing a career Grand Slam.

  8. i think she is still one of the women's players with the fastest serves...
