What is marketing plan?

My professor said to make a marketing plan in 10 to 12 pages. But on my syllbus it doesn't say anything else beside that. i mean i should make a marketing plan for a certain product. or is it possible to make a marketing plan without choosing on thing you want to sell in a business.
