  1. Good question.

And it depends on culture and race etc.

In UK I  think marriage tends to lose its purpose.

Years ago, it was a religious thing. Couples got married only in the church in the eyes of god to be united as one and seen as a married couple in the eyes of god. The where blessed as one.

Some People get married beacuse they want to do it the right way before having a family. AN dthey want to raise their children in a happy stable home within wed lock.

Now however, its become a more 'civil' thing where its convinient to be married for house mortage and other goverment reasons.

Now g*y couples can get married and it completely slaps the whole 'definition of traditional marriage' in the face.

I am going to wedding soon, not in a church and the couple dont believe in God. Personally, I see no point. Its for show, its for convieniant purposes, and yes they may love each other but thats not really just what marriage is about. If you look back to where marriage came from, its strictly a religious thing only, now its become a joke.

In other cultures, marriage can mean various things, and sometimes Love doesnt even come into the matter.  Its about God, pride, Honour and a man taking xcare of his wife finacially.

I think its a shame actaully, and I am ashamed of this country UK, the divorce rate is a joke here. People are divorcing as quick as they got married.

If i get married, I'd do it the right way in church. No I dont go to church but I believe in God and believe marraige is a spiritual thing and I really wouldnt want to mess with that.

  2. Been trying to figure that one out since I got married 12 years ago.

The heck with the kids, happy home and a soul mate!

  3. to show how much they love each other..

  4. to file for divorce a few months/years later.

  5. Property rights and property division.

  6. The concept of marriage is a very unnatural. It has been invented by the church so that people have control over each other and the church controls all.

Men and women can live together for all their life even without being married and be perfectly happy.

In most of the western countries, relationships and partnerships are already recognized by the government so that marriage has become unnecessary.

One can have everything with his/her partner without that piece of paper.

Many of my friends are not married but have been together for almost a lifetime. That goes to show you that marriage is just an invention.

Why do people get married? Maybe the same question as - Why do people get tattoos? OR Why do people get piercings? OR Why do people climb mountains?

Guess it is just a matter of taste.

I was married for more than 20 years (I am a widow now) but I would never get married again.

  7. I've never figured that one out, but the ladies all seem to know.

  8. A sign of unity to show others how much each of you mean to each other.

Marriage is a wonderful thing. Its  statement of togetherness and that no one can (or should!) come between you!

  9. I think that everyone has a different reason for marriage. The reasons can range from religion to culture to expressing love to one another to stability.

I had to think about this a lot because I knew I wanted to get married but I didn't know why and I wanted to know before I tied the know.

For me it is a way to show my partner that he is the man I want to share my whole life with and to tell the rest of the world that I have found the one.

If it doesn't mean anything to you than don't do it. You need you're own reasons for a step like that.

  10. Mankind will find a cure for cancer and Aids, but those two questions will never be answered. Stop hurting yourself trying to find out.

By and by, Life is all about learning to live with a certain amount of pain and this is a self-inflicted social trauma.

If you are married, take up the challenge and try to live with it. If not, I suggest that your discretion gets the better of curiosity

  11. Err... isn't that pretty self explanatory?
