What is maximum number of people allowed to be on a school bus?

I was just wondering if there is some kind of law or something that states the maximum number of people allowed to be on a school bus. My bus has like 36 seats and there are usually 3 to a seat and sometimes 4 to a seat with people sitting in the isles!

36 seat x 3 = 108 kids and not 4 per seat plus no sitting or standing in the isles.......

it's posted in the front of the bus.  above the driver.  they have to legally.  hmm if there's really that many people your school can get in big trouble.

There is definitely a maximum and that is usually set to a max of 3 people per seat. If there is more than that it should be reported to the authorities and handled appropriately. Sitting in the aisles is also definitely not legal. This should be reported asap!

Look on the side of the bus near the passenger entrance.

In large black letters you will find answer of Max # Occupancy.

Will depend on size of bus and what age group the bus will be carrying.

Look around. We have signage for a reason.

It is written on the side of the bus just before the door. It has a letter than a number. C48 means 48 children. A24 means 24 adults. No standees. No standees mean noone standing and noone in the isles.

In PA it is stated in the Vehicle code that "a seating space at least 13 inches wide shall be provided to each passenger".

It also states that "adequate seating space of safe design and construction shall be provided to each passenger and no passenger shall be carried for which adequate seating space is not available and used".

It is illegal for 4 to sit on a seat. Generally buses are 3x3 seating without seatbelts.

Most 40 footers are 78 to 84 passengers. There will be a manufacturer's tag in the front of the bus on the upper bulkhead that states capacity.
