Found levels on intenet of <2 and greater than >12.5. Is this correct for Tennessee?

  1. Sure - Drano, Lye, and other drain cleaners have a very high pH level.  This is neutralized if you toss a bottle down the drain, however if your dumping 55 gal drums, well........


  2. I think our campus EHS people always tell us that pH &gt;2 and &lt;12 is okay to go down the drain (so long as there are no other hazards) here in our labs, and I&#039;m in MO.  I&#039;d expect your rules to be about the same.  

    Now, with that said, your setting can also determine what is and isn&#039;t &quot;okay&quot;.  The classic lab example I know of. . . not about pH, but about flammability. . . is that ethanol usually can&#039;t be dumped down the drain, but people drink it all the time at parties.
