What is meant by 'points' and how do you go use them or get them?

I thought that I was going to get information on free recycling and I have been unable to come up with anything for that. What title should I look under to get this information? Do you 'buy' items with your point? How do you get points? I'm stumped on this ?

There are points under your screen name. They are also a link to a pair of charts. Click them. You only advance your level number for more access to each activity. There are no prizes.
