  1. "My husband walked into the kitchen while I was feeding our young son spaghetti. My son and I were covered in tomato sauce and noddles, and my husband immediately burst out laughing. I gave him a wry smile, handed him the spoon and bowl, and walked out of the kitchen, ready for a hot shower."

    A wry smile is usually somewhat forced. It can also just be a crooked smile, the kind some people use when they are trying not to smile.

  3. Very good question. I, as a translator from English into one of the Scandinavian languages, have come across it often, and have often struggled somewhat with it. Usually it becomes "ironic smile", or a "dry smile".
