What is a teaching strategy? What is meant by teaching strategy being effective?

A teaching strategy is a way a person goes about teaching something.  If they take a direct approach and lecture about something or maybe by making experimental.  An effective teaching strategy is if the way the subject was taught, if the students learned what was taught.  It's effective if the students are actively participating and learning.
