  1. As the seasons change in Northern ( and Southern ) lattitudes, the daylight time grows longer or shorter.

In extreme Northern lattitudes, the sun never sets during the mid-summer months...such as in St. Petersburg, Russia.  It's pretty cool cuz you can read a newspaper at 2AM with natural light.

Daylight Savings Time moves the time an hour forward and an hour back in order to make our workday utilize the most of the sunlight hours.  It was initially started to accomodate farmers and I've hated it until I found out that more children are run over going to school in areas where Daylight Savings is not implemented.

  2. Daylight Savings Time was instituted to save energy and increase the daylight available for evening activities, as more 'time' would be in the daylight hours. If DST wasn't around, it would get 'dark' around 7pm, and there would be about 2-3 hours of people using lights and extra electricity to do normal things. With DST, now it gets 'dark' around 8pm, and only 1-2 hours of electricity are used, thereby saving that energy for other uses and having more daylight later in the day to do outdoor things, like sports or parties or whatever you'd want to do.

  3. The U.S. begins Daylight Saving Time at 2:00 a.m. local time on the second Sunday in March and reverts to Standard Time at 2:00 a.m. local time on the first Sunday in November. DST is not observed in Hawaii or Arizona, with the exception of the Navajo Nation, which does observe DST, even in Arizona

  4. i don't know, i was wondering about that myself.
