  2. William Webb Ellis picked up the ball and ran with it whilst playing a game of football (soccer) at Rugby School and a new game was born .Named after the school

  3. I guess you could say that rugby is like being chased through a burning building by a helicopter full of ninjas.

  4. Well dear, to some, Rugby is the meaning of life!

But if you wish for a more serious answer, the game itself was 'invented' at Rugby; an English Public School (they are the posh ones dear), when they were playing football and one of the boys picked up the ball in his hands and ran with it.

  5. JUST A NAME OF THE GAME.

  6. I don't really understand your question but it is a way of life for me purely because it has a nation engulfed in what is happening. No other sport can quite have the effect is does, 20 nations battle it out each year for the Web Ellis Cup, it's beautiful! Rugby is my one time passion forever and a day, it is just great!

    Peace

    -Go Wallabies!

  7. In addition to the other answers, there are two distinct types of rugby.

One is rugby union, it is still referred to as plain rugby in most places.

The other is rugby league.  This split from rugby union over player payments.  This is usually called league.

Rugby Union was an amature game until 1996, meaning the players did not get payments for playing until 1996.

Check out the IRB (International Rugby Board) web site, as this contains much more information.
