you become a member by fulfilling their queries like your name and few other info , it depends on differenct sites or magazine or club ..or whatever it may be.....usually what info they ask for is to get picture about you .....to know your interest and for verification pupose.........thats subsription and ofcourse this subscription will be for a particular time period and it sometimes

cost you.......sometimes its freee and once your known as the subscriber....

you didnt give details about the context in which the word is being used. but subscribing to a magazine means that you sign up to get it automatically delivered periodically. And, since you are asking in Tivo and DVR I assume that you would be... subscribing to the automatic recording of a certain show every time it comes on ??? does that make sense?

Signing up for something on a regular (daily, weekly, monthly) basis.

To make sure I get "TIME" magazine every week, I have subscribed for one year.  This means they will deliver the magazine to my home every week for a year.
