Without knowing the context I'm not really certain but it probably refers to your 'type' of person. A male could say to a female or vice versa ' do you have a type?' meaning, ' is there a type of male/female that you particularly like, and tell me why?'

Basically the question is an open one, getting the responder to talk about their 'perfect' partner :)
