  1. Aliquotting is to prepare quantities of a reagent in amounts for one time use, like single serving packets of food.  That way, reagents are not frozen and thawed excessively, or otherwise exposed to repetitive conditions of use.

  2. An aliquot is an equal portion of the whole.  For example, if you had 1.0 mls of something, you could make 10 aliquots of 0.1 mls each, or 5 aliquots of 0.2 mls each.
