  1. The surface of the earth is not solid it is fractured in to sevral pieces these are called plates, google Platetectonics and all you need to know will be there

  2. Plate is from "Plate tectonics". The earth is formed of a series of moving plates which are on a bed of molten rock which move around. You have plate margins where they meet and these either rub against each other such as in LA or are constructive moving apart forming new land as the molten rock bubbles up or destructive where one is forced under another....Think thats right its been a while since I did geography

  3. a large block or tabular section of the lithosphere that reacts to tectonic forces as a unit and moves as such.

The lithosphere is broken up into what are called tectonic plates —in the case of Earth, there are seven major and many minor plates. The lithospheric plates ride on the asthenosphere. These plates move in relation to one another at one of three types of plate boundaries: convergent or collision boundaries, divergent or spreading boundaries, and transform boundaries. Earthquakes, volcanic activity, mountain-building, and oceanic trench formation occur along plate boundaries.

  4. the surface of the earth is divided into several tectonic plates that move about the surface of this planet  ....

  5. Plate tectonics, the sections of the earth crust separated by rift and subduction zones are called "plates".

  6. Probably one of the 16 tectonic plates.

  7. the earths crust is made up of 16 techtonic plates. it would be like u getting a big huge globe and covering it in 16 sheets of paper each 1 beside the other. under these plates is molten lava and when this heath up it causes the plates to expand pushing them together and this is what causes volcanoes. but if the plates just rub up against each other (also known as friction) this causes earthquakes

  8. A rigid portion of the earth's crust (either continental or oceanic) that remains stable in the center part and tectonically active on the boundary.  Plates boundaries are one of three types:

    1. Transform (slide past one another),

    2. Extension or rift (pull apart from one another)

    3. Collision (moving toward one another).

  9. just a circular plate, but in tis case the earths crust beacuse the earth is circular therefor the earth's crust must be too

  10. hmm..diferent sections of the earths crust?..ill be back to check
