  1. "Zeroing an ohmeter" is done to account for the variations within the circuits of the ohmeter itself, particularly the resistance of the test leads.  "Zeroing" will also account for changes in the battery voltage as it ages.

    "Zeroing" is done by shorting the positive and negative leads together, then using the adjustment k**b to make the meter read Zero Ohms.

    Some electronic voltmeters are self zeroing, and have no adjustment knowb.
