  1. It's a million pixels or "dots" on the screen or in print.   But I don't think that's why you're asking...

[Quick correction to a previous answer: megapixels are not measured "per inch".  That's called "DPI" (dots-per-inch).]

So anyway, camera companies want you to believe that more pixels are better.  It's not entirely true.

As I tell my friends, it's not the number of pixels you have, it's the QUALITY of those pixels.  You can have a 10 megapixel camera that has a horrid image "sensor" and a crappy lens.  All those pixels will go to waste.

So if you just want to print and e-mail your photos (and don't want to do huge enlargements)  a nice 5 megapixel camera will suit you fine.

The bread and butter of professional photographers is the Canon 1D.  It has fewer pixels, but they are some of the highest quality pixels you'll ever see. :-)

  2. Is is approximately 1 million pixels.  Mega = Million

Here is an example of sizes

    Name Megapixels Width x Height

    CGA,      0.064,         320×200

    EGA,      0.224,       640×350

    VGA,       0.3,         640×480

    SVGA,     0.5,         800×600

    XGA,      0.8,          1024×768

    SXGA,    1.3,         1280×1024

    UXGA,     1.9,       1600×1200

  4. thats how many pixels u have per inch...like for example...if u have a camera that has 8 mp it wont be as clear pictures as a camera that has 10 mp, cuz that 10 mp camera has 2 million pixels per inch more then the 8 mp...there like very little dots that u can barely see that make up the picture..also if u wanna print out really big pictures not standard size pictures, its better to take the picture with a higher mp camera cuz it will spread the pixels more and not make ''squares'' on the picture (like the 8 mp would)....but dont get me wrong a 8 mp camera is very good i have one...so basically higher MP equals to a higher clarity in pictures and u can print on bigger sizes of photo paper..u can print also print big pics from a 8 mp camera just it wont look as clear cuz its using 8 million pixels per inch on a big size photo paper, if it was a 10mp camera, then u have 10 million pixels to spreead out on every inch...K...hope u understand now...o yea if ur planing on buying a camera...a 7 MP camera will look the same as a 8 or a 10 mp...unless ur printing big pictures (which a lot of ppl dont do)..k bye ..holla back at me if u understood lol

  5. just a million pixels..

  6. in cameras it shows better quality. so if you are buying one you need one with a big megapixel rate.

  7. A unit equal to one million pixels. The higher the resolution, the more pixels in an image and therefore the greater the image quality..
