  1. Plants don't have mesoderm -- that's the embryonic layer in animals that gives rise to bone, muscle, connective tissue, etc.

    Plants have mesophyll, which is the "in between" filling of leaf tissue, consisting of chlorenchyma and parenchyma.  The bulk of photosynthesis in most higher plants occurs in mesophyll cells.
