  1. Methyloctane is a hydrocarbon. I think it is used as a non polar solvent.

    The name methyloctane is not the full name, there should be a number before it to identify if the methyl is on carbon 1, 2... or 8.


  2. There are three isomers of Methyloctane depending upon where the methyl group is attached to the hydrocarbon.  These are isomers of Nonane and are called

    2-Methyloctane

    3-Methyloctane

    4-Methyloctane

    The first two have been found in natural gas.  All three have been made during the processing of crude petroleum into gasoline.  They have been used as solvents and fuels.
