  1. The middle portion of the "triangular trade" voyage, part of the Atlantic slave trade. Ships left Europe for African markets, where their goods were sold or traded for prisoners and kidnapped victims on the African coast. Traders then sailed to the Americas and Caribbean, where the Africans were sold or traded for goods for European markets, which were then returned to Europe.


  2. the middle passage refers to a part of the triangular passage/slave trade: from europe, they would bring goods to africa (one side of triangle #1), african leaders would trade slaves for the goods received, and the ship goes to america (another side of triangle that's #2, the middle of sides #1, and #3/ side #2 to america is in between side #1 and side #3).
