What is midrange tension?

i read somewhere that a tennis racquet with midrange tension is best for a beginner but what exactly IS that? is there like a specific number that equals midrange? or does it depend on the racquet? im having a hard time chosing a racquet.im a beginner...

  1. it's the middle of the tension range allowed for your racquet. like Sandy said, every racquet has its own range of allowed tension. let's assume the range is about 55-65 lbs. the mean is 60 lbs. those telling you to string at midrange is talking about 58-59-60-61-62 lbs. some pro stringers also suggest that it's quite safe to take the mean minus two lbs (i.e., for this case, 58 lbs). hope it helps :)

Each racket has a recommend tension range.  For example, my racket's recommended range is 55-65 lbs.  Midrange simply means the middle of the range.  So for my racket, it would be 60 lbs.  The recommended string tension is printed on the racket.  You will usually find it on the side of the racket.  Good luck on choosing a racket :)
