  1. It's yummy! =) It's litterally just tofu, seawead and broth. Yeah, it depends where you live. You can get it at any Japanease resturant

  2. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Miso_soup

    Miso soup is vegetarian.

My favorite place for Japanese recipes is here:

    http://www.bento.com/tf-recp.html

Feel free to substitute the meats with vegetables or tofu (I like to).

  3. Miso paste is made from fermented rice, barley, soy or other grain.  Miso soup is typically made with miso paste and dashi, another typical Japanese product made from seaweed.  However, miso soup can also be made with bonito (a type of tuna) flakes.  So, ask if you avoid fish.

  4. Miso soup is a very delicious, healthy and nutricious soup.

It contains Dashi Soup Broth (healthiest if made from scratch), Miso paste, tofu, wakame seaweed.  Those are the absolute basics.  I will sometimes stray and add green tea, miitake mushrooms.  A very delicious soup.

  5. It is fermented soy and rice paste. This is the only way soy should be eaten.

You bring a cup of water to boil. Put a scoop of miso in your cup add chopped garlic, green onion slices, thinly sliced mushrooms, and seaweed shreds.... then add the hot water. The best place to buy miso is at an asian store. Other stores  charge way to much. You can find it in the cold food section at the asian market.

  6. miso is just fermented soy bean paste -----> vegetarian

miso soup  -------> NOT VEGETARIAN if you are eating this at most restaurants.

here's a sample miso soup recipe:

    3 cups dashi soup stock

    1 block tofu

    3-4 tbsps miso paste

    1/4 cup chopped green onion

NOTE: dashi soup stock is made from dried kelp (seaweed) and dried bonito flakes. bonito is a fish.  some dashi may contain sardines. there is also vegetarian dashi that will use dried shiitake mushrooms as a substitute for the bonito/sardines.

    http://japanesefood.about.com/od/soup/a/...

"There are different kinds of dashi. It can be made from konbu (dried kelp), katsuo-bushi (dried bonito flakes), niboshi (dried small sardines), hoshi-shiitake(dried shiitake mushrooms)"

    http://japanesefood.about.com/od/soup/a/...

....so if you are pescetarian (vegetarian that eats fish) or if you don't care, then worry about it. if you are a strict vegetarian, then there's your answer.

if you are making your own miso soup, then either omit the dashi soup stock, or use vegetarian dashi.

  7. It should be vegetarian.  Miso is a fermented bean curd, and the soup also has tofu floating in it.  It sort of settles out if left undisturbed, and you have to stir it a lot while eating.  They could use chicken broth, I suppose, but veggie broth would work just as well.

  8. just get the mix w/ bonito already in the miso paste, it's good!

  9. I dont think there is meat in it. I know it has tofu and stuff that looks like seaweed. I personaly cant stand it, it tastes like ocean water in my opinion.
