What is missing in Montreal?

Why the h*ll is it that in Montreal, the gastronomic capital of Canada, one cannot find a decent southern-recipe barbeque of any type (not Memphis, not Carolina, not Kansas City, not Texan, not anything!)?

MESQUITE. Decarie, near the Villa Maria metro.

Pulled pork, cornbread, ribs, etc. It's DELICIOUS.

Ok... I read your rant. I've eaten BBQ in Austin, Texas at two of their most beloved places, and while Mesquite isn't A list, it's certainly not the pile of s**t you make it out to be. It's a good restaurant with a steady clientele.

If you want authentic southern bbq, then maybe you need to go to the source. Montreal ain't Memphis... and why should it be?

There used to be a place, I think in NDG, that was called La Louisiane. Did it close down? I think it may have.

I live here & often wonder the same thing. Everything just seems to be so behind when it comes to other cultural fare.  We seem to be stuck in a rut when it comes to expanding the gastronomic menu, culturally.
