  1. It is a rule of thumb that says the amount of processing power that can be produced for the same cost will double every 18 months.

    It was actually made over 40 years ago, back in the 60s, by Gordon Moore. It may be a good example of a self-fulfilling prophesy, because companies like Intel use it as a kind of mission statement, see this link;
