What is more cost effective. A wood deck, or patio pavers, like cobblestone?

My yard has a minor slope, so the pavers would have to be in conjunction with some retaining wall at the top of the slope. It would likely only be 2-3 feet at the bottom in height. Thanks

  1. Wood is the cheapest in the short run but requires maintenance. The plastic/wood compound is better and stone or concert is the best of all.

  2. Try a product called Trex decking its made of recycled plastic and wood, it will last without warping for 20 to 30 years

  3. "Cost effective" - not sure if you are talking about upfront or long term cost. Pavers versus wood versus composite material. Wood would be the cheapest and easiest to build but would have the highest long term cost (cleaning, waterproofing, and quickest replacement). Pavers would be the next for up front cost with little to no real maintenance - but they do have a tendency to start looking old after 7+ years. Composite material (like trex) is going to be the most expensive up front cost but it has the longest value (trex has a 30 year warranty). Composite is very easy to work with (just like wood) but it will not rot, warp, or fade.

So if you want upfront cost - go with wood. If you want long term - pay today with composite and then you will only need to wash it with a water hose and soap once a year or less.

  4. Durability: AZEK its not composit but PVC...better

    Cost: wood is the cheapest

Pavers: to make them look good you need to blend other elements of your backyard..

I would go with a small deck, and a small paver section to blend in
